Veronica Vieira and Jessica Nelson Present at ISEE in Mexico City

BU SBRP researcher Dr. Veronica Vieira (Project 2) and doctoral student Jessica Nelson recently presented at the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) Annual Conference in Mexico City. Dr. Vieira gave a talk titled "Breast Cancer Risk and Environmental Exposure to Contaminated Groundwater" in the Spatial Epidemiology symposium.  Jessica presented a poster titled the "Boston Consensus Conference on Biomonitoring: Lay Findings and Recommendations."  For more information on the Consensus Conference please visit www.biomonitoring06.org.
 

2007 New England Membrane Enzyme Group (NUTMEG) Conference

The 25th anniversary NUTMEG Conference will be held October 14-16, 2007 in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.  Long-affiliated members will be honored for their contributions and the Karen Wetterhahn and David Kupfer Awards will be presented.  The keynote speaker is  Michael Denison, UC Davis.

NUTMEG 2007 will also host a gathering of researchers from the three New England Superfund Basic Research Programs and meeting of Superfund Directors.  One half day will be designated the "Superfund Session".

New Publication in Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology

Boston University Superfund Basic Research Program researchers Gloria Callard (Project 7), Mark Hahn (Project 5),  Sibel Karchner, Marjorie Oleksiak, and John Stegeman (Project 6) contributed to a new publication titled "Fundulus as the Premier Teleost Model in Environmental Biology: Opportunities for New Insights Using Genomics" in the journal Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology. The publication has been accepted and is currently in press.
 

New Publication By Hahn and Stegeman In Toxicological Sciences

Dr. John Stegeman (Project 6) and Dr. Mark Hahn (Project 5) have a new publication titled "Role of AHR2 in the Expression of Novel Cytochrome P450 1 Family Genes, Cell Cycle Genes, and Morphological Defects in Developing Zebrafish Exposed to 3,3',4,4',5-pentachlorobiphenyl or 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin" in the journal Toxicological Sciences. In this study Stegeman and Hahn examined the role of the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor in the regulation of four cytochrome P450 1 (CYP1) genes, and the effect of PCB126 on cell cycle genes in zebrafish embryos.
