On August 19, Dr. Mark Hahn (BU SRP Project 5) and Dr. Richard Di Giulio of Duke SRP presented to an audience of over 300 in the US EPA’s Risk-e-Learning webinar series. The session, titled “PAH and PCB Toxicity and Adaptation: Lessons Learned from Chronically Exposed Wild Populations,” was moderated by Dr. Diane Nacci of the US EPA National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory. Dr. Hahn discussed the mechanisms of evolved resistance to PCBs found in Atlantic killifish inhabiting the New Bedford Harbor Superfund site. Dr. Di Giulio focused on resistance to PAHs in Atlantic killifish inhabiting the Elizabeth River, adjacent to the Atlantic Woods Industries Superfund site in Virginia. The presentations were followed by an informative question and answer session.
